DG. Abandoned 'unicorn' puppy with second tail growing from his head has found his forever home

When Narwhal the “magical unicorn” puppy was rescued from the cold streets of Missouri, he captured the hearts of a nation.

The puppy was given the name due to a appendage that grows from its head that looks like a tiny second tail.

He was found abandoned and left for dead by a local non-profit animal shelter Mac the Pitbull where staff called him “Narwhal the Little Magical Furry Unicorn” and posted a picture of the beagle-mix puppy on its Facebook page.

Thousands of people shared Narwhal’s picture after falling in love with the unique hound.

Staff at the shelter treated the pup for a foot injury and did the necessary checks including an x-ray on his rare second tail.

Unicorn face tail doesn’t slow him down

“The extra tail is not connected to anything and has no real use other than making him the COOLEST PUPPY EVER! Dr. Heuring said there is no real reason at this time for the unicorn tail to be removed (and we all wish it wagged),” staff wrote on a Facebook post.

“The unicorn face tail does not bother Narwhal and he never slows down just like any normal puppy.

“Right now he is pretty much the most unique amazing example of what we do here and we are so thankful to have the chance to be part of his journey. Thank you everyone for helping us help them!”

Staff put Narwhal up for adoption but shelter founder, Rochelle Steffen, has decided to keep him.

Rochelle told the Southeast Missourian: “I had no intention initially of keeping him. I didn’t want a puppy. I thought I would end up with another really sad bully case, because they’re the most misunderstood. But Narwhal is absolutely, exactly what we needed.”

She added: “It’s not just a decision from me. The whole rescue cannot fathom him leaving. We all fell in love with him.”

Rochelle was concerned Narwhal might be exploited for his unusual appearance and so wanted to keep him safe. She hopes to train Narwhal as a therapy dog, according to Fox 8 News.

What a beautiful hound and I’m glad he got the happy ending he deserves.

Please share to pay tribute to all the animal heroes out there who work so hard to create a happy and loving environment for our furry friends.
